Basic Rights Oregon Statement on Presidential Election Results
Dear friends,
Basic Rights Oregon’s entire staff identifies as LGBTQ+, and we are a majority-trans workplace. We are grieving these results alongside the communities we serve. We share your fear of what is to come, your pain of knowing so many people could vote against our fundamental safety and rights, and your exhaustion of imagining the next four years when our communities have already been in survival mode for so long.
There will be much more to say and do in the future. Basic Rights Oregon will continue to do what we’ve been doing since 1996: fighting for the rights of LGBTQ+ Oregonians. We invite our communities and our allies to stand firm alongside us. But for now, know that it is okay to rest and feel your pain—sometimes we cry tears to water seeds of action.
When you are ready, we invite you to sign up for updates and opportunities with Equal Rights for All, a 2026 ballot measure campaign that will strengthen Oregonians’ rights to gender-affirming care, marriage equality, abortion and IVF. Our freedoms will be targeted by the new administration, but we know how to show up for each other.
With love and in solidarity,
Kyndall Mason (she/her)
Executive Director, Basic Rights Oregon
